Scandinavian & Danish Furniture Design

One of the most iconic styles popular worldwide is Scandinavian and Danish design. The sleek lines, functionality and high quality are what set this style apart from others. Designer Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen, inspired by the work of Eames prototyped the Ant chair, the Egg chair and the Swan chair which used a newer concept of plywood and a fiberglass shell along fabric. An employee of Arne Jacobsen’s firm, Hans Wegner became quite notable from his unique Peacock chair which actually based off the traditional Windsor chair but blossomed into a different direction. Alexander Girard

One of the most notable mid-century textile designers is Alexander Girard (1907-1993) hailing from New York City. After living in Rome and Florence as an architect, he moved back to the United States with a clear passion for worldly art. His most famous design style is folk art which could be seen in his designs showcasing geometric, colorful forms.

His greatest work was seen from 1952-1975 where he lead the fabric & textile division for Herman Miller, creating inspirational fabrics for the furniture designs of George Nelson and Charles & Ray Eames. Working with upholstery and abstract drapery prints, his collections are still lasting. You can even get puzzles and other games in classic Alexander Girard prints from House Industries.

Small Spaces

City dwelling is loved by millions, but the downside is the lack of space. There are tons of decorating tips to make your humble abode feel like a castle (well, almost).
